How To Install Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread Update on HTC Desire


Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread is now live for HTC desire. but it is not like all other OTA (Over The Air) Updates, you have to install this update manually using PC.




HTC not released this version is officially for public and also not taking responsibility if faced any problem. Although it is a developer only release but you will never realize that it is a total buggy firmware, also there is nothing like major bugs.

So you have to install it manually, if you afraid to install this, actually there is nothing to afraid manual update is very easy – just download a update file to pc connect your phone and install. After this simple process you can taste 2.3.3 Gingerbread on your HTC Desire.

Changes in 2.3.3 Gingerbread update:
Fastboot mode for quicker booting
20 MB less memory to install apps

Warnings:
This update is only for HTC desire, don't apply this method on others
This update will completely wipe your phone, it will delete all files from phone like contact, message, log and settings. So I recommend you to create a backup and save it on pc
It will “debrand” your HTC desire, its a big problem for network supplied apps users (like ahem, Orange Maps)
Charge your phone battery at least 50%
Using a laptop / PC with inverter is better
And lastly follow instructions carefully, if you missed any step you will have a nice brick

Requirements:

1. Download HTC Sync

We are updating our phone manually via pc with the help of HTC’s updating tool. So you have HTC Sync software installed on your pc in order to work HTC’s updating tool

2. Download Update file

Download Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread Update file for HTC Desire from htc developers site. This update file contains main update file and two htc sense applications. Htc has removed sense from main file because with sense this update will not fit on your phone. Don't worry we need to install them manually after upgrading

Follow these Steps:

1. Unzip HTC desire update file and save it on easy to find place like desktop
2. This update file contains another zip called “HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade.zip”. This .zip archive contains HTC updating tool, Extract it and you will see a file named “RUU_HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade (Gingerbread).exe” plus other needed files.
3. Run Updater extracted above (.exe file)


4. It will prompt you three warnings


5. Complete all above three tasks
6. And check the box before “i have completed the three steps above”
7. Press next and it will start updating process

During this process don't disconnect your phone and don't close updater otherwise it will brick your phone. Congratulations you have successfully installed android 2.3.3 gingerbread on your htc desire.

Installing Addition applications:

Facebook and htc sense apps are removed from this update to fit this large update in your desire, so we will install these apps manually on our phone.

You can install facebook easily from android market.

Installing sense apps

These application are provided in update pack in. APK format, you have two options to install these files.

1. Connect your Desire in “Disk Drive” mode and copy the APK files onto the device. You’ll need a file manager to open APK files , so install filemanager like ES File Explorer, run filemanager it on your phone, then open the APK files to install
2. OR use HTC Sync, select Application Installer option from the main screen then select the APK files
